Packaging and contents
The Over Slide packaging is rather big, but for a good reason, after all it houses a big pad. On the top of the casing we can see a picture of the pad along with one X600. The back presents the whole Nova Gaming pad series and as you can see they all have rounded corners. That is one of the recognizable marks of the NOVA pads – their rounded shape, that made them famous. The back also provides info in multiple languages, basically it says that Over Slide is the biggest of the series and the one with double the resolution of previous models too. The overall design is in nicely matching red and black.
The box contains yet another cardboard envelope, containing the pad itself:
First impressions
The pad looks very impressive. Its size is more than sufficient and its shape is cool to say the least... The wide Over Slide directly suggests, the pad is intended for gamers using wide moves at low mouse sensitivity. The unique surface for the mouse on top is grayish, and a arm rest in black lies beneath it. Nova definitely took care of the visual design, while still incorporating functional elements in it:
The top of the pad has a long, thin groove that could be used with the clip on the X600 for example, making you forger there is a cable at all :):
The Over Slide looks rather rough, but is in fact very smooth. It consists of miniature ceramic balls and microscopic mirror like particles, which reflect much more light back to the sensor, thus increasing precision and reaction time. According to the manufacturer, the pad provides zero lag and resolution of 12000 DPI, for extreme preciseness for a laser mouse. Also the surface is designed in a way, providing not only preciseness but smooth gliding too. The micro balls assure smooth work for any mouse, and even smoother when combined with the ceramic feet of X 600.
The bottom of Over Slide as you can see is from a interesting soft material (micro cell foam as it is called by the Nova), it adheres very nice to any surface, providing great stability. An as you can see it is rather thick too – a full 11 mm. That further assures negating any surface imperfections, leaving you with completely flat surface. Oh, yes, almost forgot. That is the reason though why is the pad so heavy...
